The 102nd Blosser Family Reunion was held August 7 at the home of Dick and Sally Steffes in Blakeslee, OH. Twenty-eight family and friends were in attendance. Opal Engler gave the prayer, noting with grief that Byron Engler is in the nursing home and doing poorly.
Good food was enjoyed with chicken prepared on the grill by Matt Reed. Sally’s creamed turkey was a big hit. Mark & LaDonna Dennis took pictures of everyone. Several others did also. We will try to get photos onto the web. Randy and Cindy Blosser came from Lima. They brought grandson Brayden Blosser who was visiting from Surprise, AZ (a suburb of Phoenix). Other non-local attendees included Gene Mae and Kayla Richer from Sylvania and Katie Crist from Fremont, IN.
Dick & Sally’s grandson Bowen Reed was the youngest in attendance at 16 months. Next youngest was 4 1/2 yr-old Anna Shock, granddaughter of JoAnn and John Lougheed. Opal Engler at 97 continues to be the oldest, for which we are all grateful. Denny Engler brought a friend, his walker. We are just glad to see him getting around.
Although Byron could not be part of the card game, the card-players continued the tradition he so enjoyed. Harold Whitman, Randy Blosser, Don Suffel & Ron Whitman played Euchre.
The business meeting was called to order by President Ron Whitman. Secretary/Treasurer Dolores Whitman read the minutes from the 2010 meeting. Someone moved and second to approve the minutes. Dolores pointed out to the group her appreciation for the job Kay Marie had done for so many years. Kay wrote 70 plus postcards by hand since 1985 when she took over, kept track of all those names and addresses, but most importantly compiled the Blosser Family Record of births, deaths, marriages and divorces! A standing ovation was given to Kay Marie Dennis for all her efforts over the years.
In the Treasurer’s report Dolores notified the group that we had $83.10 after paying $24 for postcards (and we still have 57 postcards to use next year!). Someone moved and second to approve the Treasurer’s Report.
President Ron Whitman asked if there was other business to be discussed. Dolores asked for suggestions about how people preferred getting their notification about the Reunion. The consensus was to let her figure it out. (Thanks a lot!)
Kay moved that the existing officers continue for another year. Kathy Whitman second. Passed by acclamation. Ron asked Dick & Sally if we can continue gathering in their fine accommodations on the same date next year. They agreed and we are grateful to them. (Date: first Sunday in August: 5, 2012 noon)
